AI translation

Learn how to streamline workflows with built-in translation

Real-time text translation

ℹ️ Real-time text translation is available with Premier and Enterprise plans.

To translate text:

  1. Open any document in the PDF viewer.

  2. Select the text you want to translate.

  3. Right-click the selection and choose Translate from the context menu.

The translated text will appear in a pop-up window with auto-detected input language. You can copy the translation or close the pop-up when you're done.

By default, translations are performed to your preferred interface language, as set in the account settings. You can also choose a different target language from the context menu when translating.

Important notes

  • Real-time AI translation works on one page at a time.

  • Translations are temporary and are not stored in the VDR.

  • Accuracy of translations may vary depending on the language and context.

  • Each user can translate up to 500,000 characters per month using AI translations.

  • The maximum text selection limit for translation is 10,000 characters.

AI translation ensures that all parties can quickly understand key content in documents without needing to manually translate or rely on external tools, enhancing productivity and reducing delays in decision-making.

Full document translation

ℹ️ Full document translation is available with Elite plan.

Full document translation lets you translate an entire file — not just selected text — directly from the file context menu, then download the translated result.

Enabling full document translation

Project admins turn on Full document translation from Settings → Project → AI tools, as a sub-setting beneath the AI translation toggle.

In India, UK, Australia, or Singapore, on an Elite plan, turning on AI translation reveals the Full document translation sub-setting along with a one-time consent modal:

"I agree that documents I send for translation may be processed outside my storage region (DPA, Annex III)."

To turn it on:

  1. Check the consent checkbox.

  2. Click Enable.

  3. Click Save in Settings to apply the change.

Outside these four regions (aside from Beijing, where the feature isn't available at all), Full document translation turns on automatically alongside AI translation — no separate checkbox or consent step is needed.

Who can use it

Full document translation is available to any user with PDF permissions or higher, provided AI translation is enabled in the project settings.

ℹ️ Full document translation is not available in Beijing and Brazil storage locations, and is not available for Q&A attachments.

Supported file formats

  • Word (.docx, .doc)

  • Excel (.xlsx)

  • PowerPoint (.pptx)

  • PDF (.pdf)

ℹ️ Full document translation supports files not larger than 30 MB.

How to translate a document

  1. Right-click the file and choose Translate from the context menu.

  2. In the modal, confirm the source language and choose a target language (defaults to your interface language, and remembers your last choice).

  3. Click Translate & download.

After you click Translate & download, you can keep working while translation runs — the file downloads automatically when it's ready.

ℹ️ If a file is still converting or being redacted when you start a translation, you'll be asked to try again shortly.

What you'll receive, based on your permission level

  • If you have PDF permission, you'll receive a translated PDF.

  • If you have Original permission and the file isn't redacted, you'll receive the translated original file.

  • If you have Original permission and the file is redacted, you'll receive a translated redacted PDF.

  • If you have Manage permission or Admin rights, you'll always receive the unredacted original, translated.

Supported languages

Full document translation supports the same languages as real-time text translation — see the list above.

ℹ️ If a new version of the file is uploaded, or the file is re-redacted or unredacted, the cache refreshes and your next translation reflects the latest version.
