How to quickly put document indices in order

Updated over a week ago

With automatic indexing turned on, the folders and files you upload are assigned a sequential number that corresponds to their upload queue.

Later, if necessary, you can move the files and folders around within the structure by either renaming them from the context menu or drag-and-dropping them to the necessary position in the structure.

To eliminate gaps after deleting or moving documents, use the Rebuild index option to regain sequential numbering. Rebuilding index works folder by folder as well as for the parent folder, i.e. entire project structure.

To update the index, click Rebuild index on the top panel.

Once selected, modal will ask you to confirm.

This action, once confirmed, cannot be undone.

By default, folders appear above files in the document structure. You can change this by clicking Customize columns and toggling the Folders first option.

The Folders first setting is stored in browser cookies. If you sign out and switch accounts, the current setting will still apply, even if the other account had a different preference.

When Folders first is turned off, files will appear at the top only if:

  • Their index numbers are smaller than those of folders (when Automatic document indexing is enabled).

  • They come first alphabetically (when Automatic document indexing is disabled).

⚠️ If you disable Folders first and rebuild the index, the indexing will still treat folders as if Folders first is enabled, placing them at the top.
