Importing answers

Get an overview of the Import answers feature in Q&A

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Our Import answers feature allows Answer coordinators to import answers from an Excel file, saving time from copying and pasting them manually into the project.

To get started, go to the Q&A tab of your project and click ImportAnswers.

Step 1 – exporting questions

First, you need to download the list of all unanswered questions. Click Get template to download an Excel file containing all questions, ready for answering.

Step 2 – answering questions in an excel file

Follow the tips in the exported Excel file to ensure there are no errors within the file for uploading.

Editing your Excel

In order for your import to be successful, the following columns must be present and filled:

  • #: question number or ID – do not edit or remove.

  • Question text: can be edited if needed, but it will not be updated upon import to the project.

  • Answer: can contain up to 5000 symbols only.

💡 For follow-up questions, you will notice the original question of the thread is presented in the Excel file in gray.

Once you're ready, save your file and return to the Import answers window.

Step 3 – importing answers

  • Go back to the import tab in a data room and click +Choose file.

  • Navigate to the previously saved template on your computer and select it. (You can also drag and drop the file directly into the upload area.)

Once the file is uploaded, you can review all answers in a new tab, make edits, and fix any issues directly on the screen. If any answers are filled out incorrectly, they’ll be highlighted in red and won’t be imported until the errors are resolved.

At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see a summary showing how many answers will be imported and how many will be skipped due to errors.

Errors while importing answers

Occasionally, something in the Excel file formatting will not be aligned appropriately aIf any field is entered incorrectly, you will see a corresponding error message specifying what needs to be fixed for a successful import. The most common errors include an empty answer field, a missing category, or a missing priority.
