Troubleshooting: failed uploads for the browser version; file's size or overall upload volume

With our browser version, you can upload without any restrictions on our end. Whether a single file, a folder structure, or a set of a number of files, you can upload it. That said, here are some common issues and potential solutions for what you might find.

Uploading progress and failed items

Any items that have failed to upload will appear in the progress window under the Failed tab.

The system will skip all successfully uploaded files and try to upload the ones, which resulted in an error.

If you get an upload error, you can use the Export function within the Failed tab to get more information withing an Excel file.

Common issues uploading documents with our browser version

In case you face any difficulties using the browser version to upload files and folders, please make sure that:

  • You have admin rights on your computer.

  • Uploads to an external website (Ideals) are allowed by your company's security policy.

  • Check your internet connection.

  • Check the path length of the file.

  • Check the file hasn't changed.

  • Check the file isn't 0KB.

  • Check the file isn't greater than 150GB

Note: Files with 0 bytes size will always get an error as they contain no data to be uploaded and viewed in the data room.

Common errors you may see uploading using the browser version

  • Not found due to long path

  • No internet connection

  • Failed to read the file or it has changed

  • File has too big size. Limit is 150 GB.

  • File has zero size

Additionally, please try using an alternative browser for upload. If the issue persists, please contact the Customer Support team.

Troubleshooting

What if I don't see the upload button anywhere on my screen?

If you cannot see an upload button anywhere in the project, it could be that you don't have the correct permissions settings. In this case, contact the project admin and ask them to double check.

How to I check if it's a cookie or cache issue?

The fastest way to check this would be to try incognito mode or even a totally different browser.

How do I check if there's issues with my corporate restrictions?

The simplest action is to use a different computer across a different network; however, you may also try the following (where your business permits and is safe):

  • disable VPN

  • proxy

  • firewalls

I don't understand what you mean by long file paths, how do I check and what can I do about it?

A long file path refers to the total length of the folder and file name combined. On Windows, paths longer than 260 characters can cause issues, including errors when uploading files through a browser.

How to Check File Path Length:

  1. Right-click the file and select Properties.

  2. In the Location field, you’ll see the full path to the file’s folder. Add this length to the file name length to determine if the path exceeds 260 characters.

What You Can Do:

  1. Shorten Folder Names: Reduce the length of folder and subfolder names to shorten the overall path.

  2. Move Files to a Higher-Level Folder: Move the file to a folder closer to the root directory (e.g., moving from C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Projects\... to C:\Projects\...).

  3. Rename the File: Shorten the file name itself if it’s very long.

Following these steps should help resolve long path issues when uploading files.
