Permissions for Q&A attachments

Manage the access level to files attached in Q&A messages

Updated over a week ago

In case the project has Q&A set up and activated, an additional section is present in Permissions – Q&A attachments.

Q&A attachments are the files attached to questions, answers, or comments in Q&A.

Q&A attachment permissions control who can access attached files after they are added, but they do not restrict the ability to attach files when creating or drafting a question.

  • Users can attach external documents when creating a question, regardless of their Q&A attachment permissions

  • If “No access” is set, the attachment will still be available to the user who uploaded it

  • The user who attached the file can always download the original document

💡 These permissions are set only for external documents uploaded from user’s computer. Existing project documents linked to messages have their own permissions depending on the user group.

Question side

On the question side, users are grouped in question teams that are set up in Q&A. View permission is set by default for all teams and can be adjusted as needed.

💡 The user who attached the file will always be able to download the original file, regardless of their permissions to Q&A attachments.

Answer side

On the answer side, permissions are set by roles. The list of roles, present in permissions, depends on the selected roles in the Q&A workflow.

Experts and answer approvers have View permission by default, but it can be changed if needed.

Answer coordinators have full access to all attachments and their permissions cannot be changed.

💡 Answer coordinators that are also project administrators can delete any attachment in Q&A threads.
